Lokmanya Tilak initially started this festival for awakening the public for the social, natinoal, international, and common problems. Now, it is huge festival in Maharashtra, A.P., Karnataka.

In Maharashtra all the 3 big cities, Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur have more than 4 digit mandals/ groups/ socities celebrating this social festival.

I know my relatives, who used to start their Mumbai journey on day 1, with 1 jeans and T Shirt and coming home after 10 days after Anant Chadurdashi, back home. Their food was prasad/ offerings to lord ganesha at various mandals.

Night rest on such places only.

10 days complete holidays and they could count the number of Ganesha idols they offered prayers. Few 1001, few even 10001. Amazing.
Just count if it is 10001 then you have to visit 101 pandals/ shamiyana/ Ganesha idols everyday.

Now, these people have become great managers, some of them Chartered Accountant few have set up businesses, few CEOs. Major learning for them in these travels was praying offered to lord, social contacts, going with any kind of people,....
