Mr. Steve Jobs, and his contribution (NYT-16th January 2008)

Mr. Steve Jobs,

This is comment on your latest launch and that people stopped reading.

I am Professor in Business School, back in India.

I must tell you a fact that:
1. Mr. Jack Welch, or Mr. G. E. Reengineer
2. Mr. Bill Gates, or Mr. Microsoft
3. Mr. Steve Jobs, or Mr. Apple
4. Mr. Larry Ellison,
5. Mr. Dell,
6. Mr. Tom Walton, or Mr. Wal-Mart
7. Mr. Henry Ford,
8. Mr. Edison, for Mr. GE number 1
9. Mr. Einstein, for Relativity
10. Mr. Bell, are still most read in India.

We have put most cases on these people as the most influential leaders/ managers/ entrepreneurs/ scientists than any other person on earth. Business and Engineerng Students have watched your video-lecture delivered at Stanford University, at least 5 times. Read about it 10 times. Hence, I don’t agree (positively I am putting here) on your comment, “It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore,” he said. “Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”
Other side is 40% in USA or 10% in India is equivalent to more than 100 million, hence, I hope you understand it does matter.

Mr. Jobs, or Mr. Steve as lovingly my students say, you are icon for this new generation of leaders and entrepreneurs and managers. Hence, it does matter a lot.

People do read your comments they value your contributions, if not in a place near you, then other part of the country and globe yes it does, they do read.

Also, if people do not read books then they read on laptop or on Internet or some kind of reading everybody are doing as it is happening at present moment.

If you are interested please read my poem:
“Whether you love me
Whether you hate me
I am going to contribute, contribute, contribute”.

Contribution does matter. That is how great people have left the mark, and you are standing in that queue of great people.

Dr. Ashish Manohar Urkude, India.
